For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. --Romans 8:18

Believ'st thou in eternal things?
Thou knowest, in thy inmost heart,
Thou art not clay; thy soul hath wings,
And what thou seest is but part.
Make this thy med'cine for the smart
Of every day's distress; be dumb,
In each new loss thou truly art
Tasting the power of things that come.   - T.W. Parsons

Every contradiction of our will, every little ailment, every petty disappointment, will, if we take it patiently, become a blessing. So, walking on earth, we may be in heaven; the ill-tempers of others, the slights and rudenesses of the world, ill-health, the daily accidents with which God has mercifully strewed our paths, instead of ruffling or disturbing our peace, may cause His peace to be shed abroad in our hearts abundantly.  --- E. B. Pusey

Lord, help me to remember this! Your peace is ours if we will only take it!

Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Ps. 24:9

Fling wide the portals of your heart,
Make it a temple set apart
From earthly use for Heaven's employ,
Adorned with prayer, and love, and joy.
So shall your Sovereign enter in,
And new and nobler life begin.
---G. Weissel

Love these readings/poems or whatever they are called. I have an old book called "Daily Strength for Daily Needs" that I found at a garage sale many years ago and I have gotten so much comfort from its daily readings. The earliest copyright on it is from 1884 and the latest is 1928 by Mary Wilder Tileston. I have found that the Lord has a way of giving me help whenever I need it and this is a great and wonderful gift I was given!

Happy Birthday America!

Another 4th of July has come and gone and I wonder how America is really doing. All in all I guess only God really knows. It would really be depressing if I just wasn't convinced that there are so many good, decent, hard-working, patriotic people that still love this country; soldiers and citizens. No matter how bad the news is and how self-serving our leaders are, I have to believe in the strength and common sense of the good people who are my neighbors and fellow voters; hopefully the majority of mid-America. My gut tells me that there will be a surprise for the Washington crowd next election day no matter what the pundits tell us. The internet is full of new grassroot groups trying to rally around rescuing our country from the inept, selfish, greedy elitists running the show at this time. I just feel that there is a big change coming and I pray it will be a good one.
